Academic Profile

About Me

I am a materials physicist at Necmettin Erbakan University, specializing in thin-film materials, semiconductor physics, and device-oriented functional coatings. My research covers the fabrication and characterization of transparent conductive oxides, metal oxides, nitrides, chalcogenides, and graphene-based films for optoelectronic and energy-related applications. I lead the Thin Film Research Group within the LAMPs Laboratory, where we develop functional thin-film materials using advanced deposition technologies — PVD, CVD, and ALD — supported by comprehensive materials characterization. Alongside research, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, lead research projects, and collaborate with academic and industrial partners.

Research Profile

My research combines materials physics and device engineering to advance functional thin-film technologies. I focus on the deposition and characterization of transparent conductive oxides (TCOs), metal-oxide and metal-nitride thin films, chalcogenide layers, and CVD-grown graphene. By investigating structure–property relationships in these material systems, I aim to develop high-performance coatings and functional layers for optoelectronic devices. My work bridges fundamental materials science and practical device applications, with an emphasis on process control, layer optimization, and interdisciplinary collaboration. My current research areas are detailed in the Research section below.

Teaching and Supervision

I am actively involved in undergraduate and graduate education through teaching, research supervision, and academic mentoring. As a member of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences — Nanoscience and Nanoengineering Board — I teach M.Sc. and Ph.D. level courses and supervise graduate students. I also teach General Physics in the Faculty of Engineering, and Solid State Physics and Electronics in the Department of Physics.

Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs)

Engineering high-performance TCO thin films for optoelectronic device integration

My research on transparent conductive oxides focuses on Al-doped ZnO (AZO) and related TCO systems deposited by RF/DC magnetron sputtering. I investigate the effects of deposition parameters, post-annealing, and doping concentration on electrical conductivity, optical transparency, and structural quality. These films are evaluated as electrode layers in optoelectronic devices, with characterization by Hall effect measurements, XRD, and spectrophotometry.

Phase engineering and functional property optimization in transition metal compound films

This research area covers the deposition and characterization of transition metal oxide and nitride thin films, including VO₂, MoO₃, WO₃, and TiO₂. By controlling stoichiometry, phase composition, and microstructure through sputtering conditions and post-deposition treatments, I explore their functional properties for applications in gas sensing, UV photodetection, thermochromic coatings, and optoelectronic device layers.

CVD-Grown Graphene & 2D Materials

Synthesis and characterization of large-area graphene and transition metal dichalcogenide films

I synthesize single- and multi-layer graphene via low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) on copper substrates and investigate the influence of substrate thickness, surface pre-treatment, and growth conditions on film quality. Alongside graphene, I work on MoS₂ and WS₂ thin films for photodetection and optoelectronic applications. Films are characterized by Raman spectroscopy, XRD, and electrical measurements.

Chalcogenide Thin Films

Nanostructured chalcogenide layers for sensing and optoelectronic applications

My work on chalcogenide thin films covers the synthesis of CdS, ZnWSe₂, and Cu₂S layers using magnetron sputtering and SILAR deposition. I investigate the structural and optical properties as a function of annealing and processing conditions, with applications in gas sensing, counter electrodes for solar cells, and optoelectronic device integration. Raman spectroscopy and profilometry are central characterization tools in this research line.

Optoelectronic Device Engineering

Functional thin-film layers for next-generation solar cells and sensor devices

This research integrates thin-film materials into functional device architectures. My work includes the development and optimization of electron and hole transport layers for perovskite solar cells, fabrication of Schottky-type UV photodetectors based on metal-oxide stacks, and thin-film gas sensors using metal-oxide and chalcogenide active layers. Device performance is evaluated through I-V characterization, spectral response, and stability testing.
